Ginseng is most commonly used to boost energy and to support the body’s immune system. But there is already evidence that this ancient herb can do more than just be an energy booster – it can also benefit the brain and protect the body from conditions such as cold and flu.
Ginseng is the dried root of one of several species of the Araliaceate family of herbs. The most commonly used type is Asian Ginseng (Panax Ginseng) often sold as Panax Chinese or Korean Ginseng. Closely related to Asian Ginseng is American Ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L.) which is milder in term of energy boosting effect. Another type of ginseng, Siberian ginseng is even milder in effect and weaker in action and consequently the least expensive. Ginseng containing foods and dietary supplements are typically made from a powder or extract of ginseng root.
